Relic talks about Space Marine - Could have been better

An article on Eurogamer presents an interview with Relic that talks about Warhammer 40k: Space Marine and it's reception by reviewers and gamers.

The interview touches on Relics thoughts of developing the game, their ambitions and how they felt it all panned out in the end.

"Can you kill Orks? I guess that's good enough. Let's ship it, guys!"

Basically the whole interview has a slightly depressing tone to it, as Relic pretty much states that they made a mediocre game and the were fully aware of it.

They go on to talk about the difficulties of starting a new franchise on a platform that is so late in its life cycle and where a lot of the other games on that platform is on their second or third iteration (What kind of bull is that, tho? Deus Ex is a perfectly competitive game despite being the first outing for that franchise on the 360 and PS3).

Talks about a sequel to Space Marine has just begun, so let's hope that Relic sets their aim on higher standards this time.

"Give me a 5/10 will you? Eat Chainsword, heretic!"

As I have previously stated, though, I did find Warhammer 40k: Space Marine to be a fairly enjoyable experience.

That said though, it was also clear that the game was rather bare bones and appealed mostly to those that were fans of the fiction or just really liked 3rd person shooters in all forms.
