Want to be rich like a Hutt? Got the energy level of one as well? Fear not, there is hope for you still! |
Being a veteran WoW player I have had more than my fill of daily questing. I can get behind the idea of having daily quests in a MMO. It's a way for the developers to ensure that the players will always feel they have something to do in the game, even when they've reached max level and completed all the normal quests.
However, it's also a way of creating content that will eventually suck out your will to live straight through your skull.
No matter how interesting a daily quest is (and the daily quests in SWTOR are not that interesting to begin with), the magic will be long gone by the time you're making your way through it for the 20th time that month.
So that's why I personally have forsaken the daily quests in my attempt to preserve my gaming sanity.
That's why I've taken a more comfortable route to earning my SWTOR money.
I've already shared with you how I got 100k at level 25, and I've also posted about making money on the GTN auction house and further elaborated on this practice in a later post.
Today I thought I'd share my own story about where I'm at now with earning credits and how I've been using a slightly less aggressive method of the one I've outlined in my previous posts.
I didn't really start to put any effort into squeezing the most out of the GTN until I was done with my Sith Inquisitor storyline. At that point I was level 49 and with little motivation to do more questing, I decided that it was time for me to dive into buying and selling on the auction house and see if that could earn me some space bucks.
My credit balance was a reasonable 637.000 credits at that time, which was the result of following the basic tips of only having gathering crew skills and not spending any money on the GTN as I was leveling.
About to start on my money making GTN adventure |
After completing the main storyline I found my enthusiasm for SWTOR dwindling significantly and I went from playing 3-4 hours every day to playing a couple of hours every 2-3 days.
So I knew that whatever I wanted to do on the GTN I could not try to do anything that would require me to be around often and make adjustments constantly.
This meant that my preferred modus operandi of finding goods that I can corner the market on and then buying out anyone that tries to undercut my prices would not be ideal. There would be too great a risk of my price getting continually undercut while I was out of the game and I would just end up with a ton of items that I would have to dump my prices on to unhand.
So I settled for a more laid back approach of observing prices and looking for under priced auctions.
I followed these three simple steps:
1) Find some items that had a reasonably high selling price per bundle (5k+)
2) Monitor the prices on these items for a few days and see how the price fluctuates
3) Once you have a good idea about the "correct" price, start watching for any bundles that are priced at least 40-50% lower than this "correct" price and snatch them up whenever you see them
4) In addition to step 3, also watch out for sudden influxes of items that temporarily drive down the market price. This is a good opportunity to buy up cheap items that you can hold for a few days before selling them back at the regular higher price.
5) Look out for other people that are trying to corner the market. For example I noticed one day that Polyplast was suddenly going for 12k per 10pcs bundle, whereas the normal price was more like 7k.
I saw a few auctions were already up with the normal 7k price, effectively trying to undercut the guy who was attempting to corner the market. I snatched up all the 7k auctions and dumped some of my own Polyplast as well at the 12k price and therefore managed to earn an abnormal profit through the help of someone else that was playing the market on the GTN.
I started using this technique around the middle of January, casually logging in once every couple of days to relist my auctions and check the prices, spending maybe 10-15 minutes in the game each time.
As of right now I've earned around 700.000 credits using this method (slightly less, since I've also done some PvP'ing to get me the last bit of way from 49 to 50 and earned a little cash from that as well).
Doubling my money from 0,7 million credits to 1,4 million credits in a month seems alright for almost zero effort |
It helps me keep me interested in playing SWTOR by allowing me to focus on the content that I actually want to play, without sending me straight to the poorhouse or being unable to fund my alts.
If there are any casual SWTOR'ers out there that also get cold sweats when thinking about mountains of daily quests to be completed, or who just want to dabble in earning money from the GTN without going all in and spending several hours a day trawling through item listings and tweaking prices constantly, then I hope this method will be of use to you.

easy, low intense, but above all....DANGEROUS way to make creds. Ultra risky.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think it's dangerous?
ReplyDeleteIf you follow my guide and monitor the prices over a period it should be quite safe.
