Sith Inquisitor Info Bonanza

I recently posted an article about the process of my class selection for The Old Republic. After much deliberation and pulling of hair (mostly my own), I finally settled on the statically charged Sith Inquisitor.
With the NDA on the TOR beta test going down just this last weekend, we now find ourselves with more info than we know what to do with.

I thought that it would be interesting to plunge a straw into this bucket of condensed TOR info and try to suck up as much as I could find that deals with the Sith Inquisitor. After a diligent extraction process, I present the results to you here.

This Sith Inquisitor class trailer should give you a good idea of what you are in for

The Basics

The Sith Inquisitor is the "caster class" for the Empire. Able to hurl lightning at his enemies, he is a class that lets you live out all your Palpatine fantasies, sans the melted face part. Inquisitors are the scheming puppet masters of the Empire. They are the keepers of the powerful secrets of the Dark Side. Where the Sith Warriors are blunt instruments that excel in subjugation by brute force and maximum destruction, the Inquisitors rely on more precise and subtle means of influence.

Of course, should that fail, they are more than capable of resorting to burning the flesh off your bones with crackling blue force lightning. You have to keep an open mind and stay flexible, after all. And if you really want to get up and personal, naturally the Sith Inquisitor is also quite capable with a lightsaber, for all your slicing and dicing needs.

Advanced classes

Upon reaching level 10, you will have a choice between two different advanced classes. For the Sith Inquisitor you have the choice of becoming a Sorcerer or an Assassin (no white outfit or wrist blades, sadly).

The Sorcerer is all about staying at a distance and roasting your enemies through different variations of Force lightning. Or you could focus on the more defensive side of the Dark Side (but honestly, lightning. Come on!), which will enable you to heal and protect your friends in combat and make you into a healer rather than a DPS class.

The Sorcerer class has access to three talent trees that you can sink points into as you level up:

  • Lightning: Does what it says on the box. MOAR LIGHTNING!
  • Corruption: This is where the defensive skills are bolstered. All you need to prevent your friends from tuning into puddles of goo and chunks of cooked meat.
  • Madness: The common tree of the Inquisitor that is shared with the Assassin. Here you have a nice little toolbox that will let you suck the life out of your enemies or paralyze them with fear.
If it wasn't for the guy with the lightsaber I could have mistaken that guy for Draeni Shaman. Except a lot more cool
The Assassin is a lot more in your face than the Sorcerer. Though you won't notice him until he plants his double bladed lightsaber *through* aforementioned face. With the ability to utilize a sneaky wraith like ghost form, the Assassin can stalk up to his prey and ruin their day by leaving a nasty scorch mark on their clothes, as his blade punches through their stomach.
It's not exactly sportsmanlike, but we'll leave all this crap about martial honor codes to the Sith Warriors. We'll see how you feel about giving your enemy a fair fight when your limbs are chopped off and you have to spend the rest of your life in a fully enclosed life support suit (I'm thinking that the feeling you'll have will be something like "Noooooooooo!").

Besides the whole sneaking and stabbing routine, you can also tailor the Assassin to be a tank. One of his talent trees allows him to focus his powers on defense and avoidance, which turns your role around 180 degrees from quietly sneaking up on enemies and prodding them ever so gently with the pointy end of your lightsaber, to running right in front of them, provoking them into attacking you by calling their them Nerf herders and making inappropriate "your mamma" jokes that references Hutts. All for the greater good, I guess.

The three talent trees that the Assassin gets to use are:

  • Deception: This is the tree that deals with the sneaking and the violent stabbing of people.
  • Darkness: The tanking tree that is all about mitigating and avoiding damage and increasing the potency of your ability to keep enemies attacking you (ruder "your mamma" jokes, I guess)
  • Madness: Same as for the Sorcerer
Even if you're an Assassin, you can never go wrong with lightning
You can also check out the complete skill trees for the Sorcerer and for the Assassin and plot your own points already.

Companions

Companions are a key part of TOR, which will help you with all those bothersome chores like crafting or being pounded around the head and neck by angry aliens.
The Sith Inquisitor will pick up five different companions as he levels up, each with their own personality and specialized role to fill.
  • Khem Val: Dashade Male, Melee Tank
  • Andronikus Revel: Human Male, Ranged DPS
  • Ashara Zavros: Togruta Female, Melee DPS
  • Talos Drellik: Human Male, Healer
  • Xalek: Kaleesh Male, Ranged Tank
Khem Val. Now there is a face that only a blind mother could love (maybe a basis for a "your mamma" joke?)
Inquisitor Ship

Now it wouldn't be Star Wars without some super cool spaceships. Fortunately the Sith Inquisitor has got us covered when it comes to travelling the stars in style. With the "Fury" class Imperial Interceptor you will have all the facilities that befits a master of the secrets of the Dark Side of the Force, while still packing plenty of punch for those occasions when you just want to blast something out of existence.

Available races

While choosing a race does not have as big consequences as choosing what class to play, I still consider it an important choice that makes up a big part of your characters identity. The Sith Inquisitor can choose from one of these five races:
  • Human (Duh!)
  • Rattataki (Bald emo looking humans)
  • Zabrak (Darth Maul. Humans with small horns on their head. Have trouble shopping for hats)
  • Twi'lek (Dancing girl in Jabbas palace that suffers unfortunate trap door induced Rancor death)
  • Sith Pureblood (Red humans with small horns and face tentacles that remind me a little of Davy Jones)
Hidden racial power: It is impossible to see if a Pureblood is embarrassed, as you can't tell if they're blushing
I think that wraps up the most important aspects of the Sith Inquisitor, with the exception of the actual storyline that you play through. And as I would rather not have that spoiled I'm staying far away from any details on that!
